For the purpose of athlete selection for the Hec Gervais Academic & Curling Scholarship Foundation defines elite athletes as follows:

"Alberta and Saskatchewan athletes whose performance standard ranks them at the international level, and athletes with national level potential".

CURLING CRITERIA

Must have competed in Junior Men's or Women's,  High School, Winter Games or Mixed competition.

Must have illustrated above average interest, skill, dedication and sportsmanship to and promotion of curling.

Must be a member in good standing with the applicable Governing Curling Body.

Recipients must be actively curling the same year that they win the award.

OTHER CRITERIA

Must be 20 or less as of December 31 in the year of application.

Must be striving to achieve gainful life skills consistent with the sportsmanship and philosophy of the curling fraternity.

Must be a valued, contributing member of a curling club, school and/or community.

Attend (or have attended) a Level One Technical Course during the upcoming season, if possible.

Must submit the application forms to the Governing Curling Body for your area not later than March 31.  Incomplete applications will not be accepted.

The number of awards and value of each will be determined by the Hec Gervias Academic & Curling Scholarship Foundation Board of Directors.

ALBERTA ATHLETE DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM (AADP) - click here for more information

This scholarship is funded by The Alberta Sport Recreation Parks and Wildlife Foundation with the intent of developing Olympic caliber athletes.  Three Junior Women's and three Junior Men's and 1 teams will be selected from Alberta and will receive funding towards training.  Application forms must be submitted by September 1st each year

A.A.D.P. SELECTION CRITERIA:
RECOMMENDATION: 

As this is a performance based scholarship, the following point system for assisting in the selection of recipients has been accepted by the Alberta Curling Federation Technical Committee.

Points for accomplishments of each player (awarded on an individual basis).

2 points - Juvenile Provincials
2 points - Alberta Winter Games (do not include zone participation)
3 points - Canada Winter Games
3 points - Junior Provincials (High School Prov. not eligible)
3 points - Juvenile Nationals
4 points - Junior Nationals

ACF SCHOLARSHIP AWARDS - click here for more information

Four annual scholarships in the amount of $1200 each for the 2006, 2007 and 2008 seasons are being offered. In each year, scholarships will be awarded to two male and two female applicants. The scholarships will be awarded to students/curlers attending the second or later years of post secondary education within the boundaries of ACF. There is no age limit and applicants may only receive the scholarship once. Applications must be received at the ACF office prior to September 30.

OTHER CRITERIA

Be a member in good standing of an ACF Member Club

Must have competed in an ACF Provincial Championship or the Provincial level of the Alberta Winter Games (1996 curling season or later)
OR
Must have competed in another Provincial/Territorial Championship (1996 or later) and completed one year of post secondary education at an Alberta university/college

Must be actively curling in the year they apply

Have maintained a GPA of 3.0 or higher in the year prior to their application
