DAVE TIBBS MEMORIAL AWARD
The Dave Tibbs Memorial Award is presented annually, by the NACA,
in the memory of David John Tibbs, who passed away in 1992. It is a player's
award based on the results of ballots completed by each of the competitors participating
in the KIA Alberta Men's Curling Championship. It is an award presented to
a player from each pool that are chosen by their peers, who best represents the ideals stated below.
Dave was a well known curler, official, club executive and
active member and Past President of the Northern Alberta Curling
Association. Dave had also been elected President of the Alberta Curling
Federation, but when his health deteriorated and he realized that he could not
perform his duties to the high standards he set for himself, he resigned.
Dave was a leader by example, who always had the time to assist
a new executive member or to take on a task for a club experiencing
problems. He was a gentleman, never getting excited or emotional, no
matter how tense the situation. He pursued and achieved excellence in a
quiet and unassuming way. Everyone felt confident when Dave was in charge
of a project or event.
This award is presented in the true spirit of curling -
exemplified by Dave's high ideals of sportsmanship, observance of the rules,
exemplary conduct on and off the ice and commitment to the growth and
development of the game.
