The success of a sports program depends a great deal on the quality of the coach. That's why the Coaching Association of Canada recommends that all coaches in Canada, whether novice or master, become certified in the National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP). Level 1 - 3 of the NCCP covers three components of coaching - Technical, Theory and Practical. After completing all three components of a level, coaches receive a "passport" that officially recognizes their accomplishments as a certified instructor/coach at that level. TECHNICAL presents the skills and drills of curling, as well as specific information on rules of the game, equipment and skill development.
THEORY teaches important principles of coaching. Levels 1 - 3 - courses content includes: planning, role of the coach, growth and development, safety, skill analysis, development of skill and physical preparation. PRACTICAL provides coaches with feedback on their ability to apply coaching knowledge through self, peer or examiner evaluation.
