OFFICIALS CERTIFICATION PROGRAM

The Canadian Curling Association (CCA) recognizes the need to develop and implement a National Curling Officials Certification Program. The objective is to establish standard guidelines for the training and development of curling officials who will be capable of officiating at a northern, provincial or national championship.

It should be noted that the purpose of a rules and officiating course is not only to train officials but also to make players more knowledgeable about the officiating system and rules of the game.

Level 1 - Game Observer, Time Keeper and Hogline Official.

Requirements: attend a course, pass an officiating exam and complete the practical requirements.

Practical Requirements: must serve as a game observer, timing official and/or hog line official at a supervised championship for a minimum of 6 games under the direction of a certified head official.

Level 2 - Provincial Supervising Official.

Requirements: have Level 1 certification, attend a Level 2 course, pass an officiating exam and complete the practical requirements.

Practical Requirements: must serve as a supervising official for a minimum of 6 games at a supervised championship for a minimum of 6 games under the direction of a certified head official.

Level 3 - Provincial Head Official

Requirements: have Level 2 certification, serve as a head official at a provincial championship, receive a positive evaluation.

Level 4 - National Supervising Official

Appointment on a need basis by CCA

Level 5 - National Head Official

Appointment on a need basis by CCA
