Sherwood Park Curling Club is hiring a Senior Ice Assistant

We are looking for an enthusiastic individual to assist the Ice Supervisor for the 2010-2011 Season.  This is a diverse position that can lead into a head ice position in the future.  Or, for the semi-retired person that is looking to keep busy over the winter.  Working directly for the Ice Supervisor you will learn all the skills necessary to make and maintain quality curling ice.  The successful applicant will attend the Level 1 Ice Tech school in Calmar on October 14-16, 2010.  This is a 30 - 40 hour a week position.  Some curling experience would be an asset but not a requirement, we offer on the job training.

Position Title:
Assistant Ice Maker – 8-9 month term

Supervisor:
The Assistant icemaker is accountable to the Head icemaker and in his absence, the General Manager.

Date of Description:
June 1, 2010

Position Summary:
The Assistant icemaker is responsible for supporting the Head icemaker in the day-to-day operations of the Granite Curling Club. Duties include, but are not limited to the following:

•Assist Head icemaker in preparing concrete surface for ice installation.
•Install ice - flood, paint, measurements.
•Maintain Ice - regular washing and scrapping.
•Maintain ice area equipment.
•Remove ice in the spring; clean all equipment and tools and store for summer.
•Cover for the General Manager - answer the phone, take messages, deal with any visitors and handle any problems           arising if possible, work the pro - shop when ever available.
•Perform all duties as listed on the ice staff duty list.
•Oversee that all janitorial duties are performed.

Qualifications:
Formal Education: Courses or Certificates related to Ice Making.

Experience: Two years of ice making under a Level III ice maker.

Special Requirements: Flexible and able to work various hours, strong commitment to customer service, strong work ethic and able to work with minimal supervision.
